Direct primary care (DPC) is a membership model where you pay your doctor’s practice a flat monthly fee for unlimited primary care visits and direct access to your physician, instead of the practice billing insurance for each visit. There are no copays or visit fees for covered care.
DocTalker Family Medicine in Vienna, Virginia has offered direct access to a physician since 2002, before “direct primary care” was a common term. Visits run 30 to 45 minutes, members call their doctor directly day or night, and we have opted out of Medicare and do not bill insurance.

What is direct primary care?
Direct primary care (DPC) is a membership model where you pay your doctor’s practice a flat monthly fee for unlimited primary care visits and direct access to your physician, instead of the practice billing insurance for each visit. There are no copays or visit fees for covered care.
How much does DocTalker cost?
Memberships are $35 a month for children ages 6 to 17 and young adults 18 to 25 on a parent plan, $99 a month for adults 26 to 49, and $125 a month for adults 50 and older, plus a one-time $110 registration fee per patient.
Does DocTalker accept insurance or Medicare?
No. DocTalker does not bill insurance and has opted out of Medicare. Most members keep their insurance for hospital care, specialists, imaging and emergencies, and use their membership for primary care.
How do I reach my doctor after hours?
Members can call their DocTalker physician 24/7 at (703) 938-4600. For a medical emergency, call 911.
Does DocTalker make house calls, and what areas do you serve?
Yes. DocTalker physicians make house calls within about 25 miles of our Vienna office, including McLean, Tysons, Oakton, Falls Church, Arlington and Fairfax. House calls are billed separately from membership. Call (703) 938-4600 if you are not sure whether you are in our area.
What is a capacity evaluation?
A capacity evaluation is a physician’s assessment of whether a person can understand and make a specific decision, such as a medical, care or estate planning decision. DocTalker physicians perform them in our office, at home or at a facility, with a written report.
What is not included in membership?
House calls, worksite visits, vaccines and capacity evaluations are billed separately. Lab tests are not free but members pay deeply discounted prices.
