How We Work

​As a practice, DocTalker Family Medicine works to:

  • Establish a personal relationship with each patient, one-on-one

  • Give members direct phone access to their physician 24/7, wherever they are, with after-hours calls reserved for urgent needs

  • Offer time-saving phone and video visits, so many common issues can be handled without an office visit

  • Make house calls, billed separately from membership

  • Offer same-day or next-day appointments when needed, weekdays 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with physician phone access after hours for urgent needs to help keep you and your family out of the ER

DocTalker Family Medicine and its parent company, doctokr Inc., were founded in 2002 by Dr. Alan Dappen. After practicing family medicine around the world for nearly 25 years and working for a large family medical practice in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC, Dr. Dappen found himself wanting to give his patients more convenience, better access and high quality of care than the insurance-driven healthcare system could provide. He left the confines of the conventional model and started DocTalker Family Medicine, which combines the best medical traditions with today's technology to give patients better control of their healthcare.

Dr. Dappen created the model DocTalker is built on: patients can reach their own physician directly, and care happens wherever it fits best, whether by phone, video visit, office visit, house call, or patient portal.

At DocTalker, we put our patients first. Members can call their physician directly 24/7, with after-hours calls reserved for urgent needs. This direct access helps our patients stay healthier and get their medical issues resolved quickly.
